The Killer (1989)

Ah Jong is an assassin for hire and his last job for the Chinese triad ends up with him hurting a nightclub singer, Jennie. feeling responsible for blinding Jennie, he follows her to make sure she was okay and ends up falling in love with Jennie when he helps her after thugs attack her one night after a performance. to help Jennie collect movie for her eye operation he accepts one last assassin and is met by the protagonist of this movie, Li Ying. he escapes after the successful assassin attempt but the triad leader Hay Wong Hoi, instead of paying him, sends a group of hitmen to kill him. During his escape from the triad hitmen, a child is injured and Ah Jong, ignoring his own safety helps the child. the police officer, Li Ying is present through this scene and he knows that even though Ah Jong is an assassin, he is surprised by the act of goodwill. Ah Jong is still left unpaid, so he goes to meet the triad manager but is also betrayed by him. he is ambushed by the triad and ends up killing everyone except the manager. he reaches out to the triad leader again, but the leader is caught in a hit and run and is injured.
Ah Jong’s home is ambushed by both the triad and the police and during the fight, Li's partner is killed. during their escape, Li and Ah are both injured but end up together in the same place. They form a bond and become friends and Ah Jong tells the officer to either take his eyes and donate to Jennie or take his money to get her treated in better hospital.
Due to their unlikely but close friendship, Ah Jong, Li and Jennie, together go to meet the triad manager at a church, where the manager is followed by the triad members and fatally wounded. Ah Jong kills the manager to end his suffering and during the shootout with the triad he is shot in his eyes by the triad leader. the leader is wounded during this fight and when the police officers enter the shootout arena, he is asked to be taken into custody. Li saddened by the death of his new friend kill the leader and gets arrested by the police for misconduct.
the last scene of the movie shows Li Ying playing the harmonica alone in his jail cell in the memory of his friend Ah Jong.



Hard Boiled (1992)

A police officer, Yuen "Tequila" and his partner, Benny try to arrest a group of gun smugglers when they are making a deal but because of the ambush from another gang member a gun fight breaks out. this fight results in the death of Tequilas partner. Angered by his death, Tequila decides to kill the gangster who ambushed them instead of arresting him. the police suprintendent, wh wanted the gangster slive to tesify is angered and orders Tequila off the case. Alen, a hgh ranking assassin, working for triad boss "Uncle" Hoi murders a fellow gang member whos been working for rival gang. The rival gang leader, impressed by Alan tries to recruit him and turns him against Hoi during a raid. Alan is demanded the Wong, the rival leader to kill Hoi and his men, Tequila attacks the group and confronts Alan with a gun to his head. at that point, Tequila tries to shoot Alan but realises that he is out of bullet and Alan, having the chance t kill the officer, walks away wihout harming him.
Alan turns out to be an undercover cop which confuses Tequila and he tracks him down to make sence of the situation. they are ambushed by Hois remaining members and end up killing all of them before Wong arrives. This helped Alan keep his desguise but led to Wong realising that one of his member, Foxy is a police informant. Foxy is beaten up by Wongs men and left for dead. Still alive, Foxy goes to Tequila to inforn on the whereabouts of the gang. Alan is sent to kill Foxy along with Mad Dog and when Alan and Tequila are distracted, Mad Dog kills Foxy. This leads to a fight between Alan, Mad Dog and Tequila inside the hospital itself. Mad Dog distracts Alan and Tequila while Wong takes all the patients as hostages. Tequila finds way way to Chang, a police detective helping in the merternitiy ward and hep take all the babies to safety. Mad dog and Alan come face to face standoff with a lot of patients between them. They put down their guns and try to get the patients to safety when Wong enters and kills all the patients. Enraged Mad Dog shoots Wongs gun out of his hand and Wong shoots and kills Mad Dog all the while when Alan escapes.
Tequila meets up with Alan and they are confronted by Wong who has set up bombs to blow up the building. Alan persues Wong nd Tequila escapes with the last baby as the building explodes behind them. Wong appears with Alan at gun point and humiliates Tequila. Alan grabs the pistol in Wongs and during the strugle gets shot in the stomahc. this gives enough time for Tequila to kill Wong.
At the end of the movie, the comissioner and Tequila burn Alans police file and Alan is seen to sail away from Hong Kong in his boat.

Ben, Paul, and Frank are a part of a gang and three childhood friends. Frank takes a loan to pay for Jane and Bens reception and is attacked by the leader of the other gang with whom they have a constant brawl with for the money. after the wedding, ben and frank attack the leader, Ringo and frank ends up killing Ringo. they decide to run away to Hong Kong along with Paul to escape the police. and then decide to go to Vietnam to make money as smugglers. During their smuggling operation for Leong, they are captured by the police as suspects for the bombing and attempt on an officer of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. They are heavily beaten up during the interrogation until the real bomber is exposed and executed in front of them. After this incident they med Luke, a hired assassin by Leong, who dreams of escaping Vietnam with sally, who is kidnapped and forced into prostitution by Leong. together they hatch a plan to save and it ends up in a shootout at the nightclub where sally is shot in the back and injured. during this shootout, Paul discovers bars of gold at Leong’s office and steals it.
they attempt to leave the place by boat and are attacked by the gangsters and the Army as their escape boat arrives. Sally dies during this attack. Soon after, the boat breaks down and Paul become distressed over the loss of gold and because of his obsession on the gold, Ben and Frank tell him that their friendship is over. their boat is attacked by gangsters and sunk. Paul goes back for the gold and almost drowns when Ben and Frank save him and the gold.
the three friends are then captured by the Vietcong along with Leong’s documents the he was going to sell to north Vietnam. they are interrogated and Paul, to save the others claims that he works for the CIA. Frank and Ben are forced to kill the other prisoners, but they turn on their captors and escape with the help of Americans led by Luke. Paul takes the gold into a field where Frank follows him begs him for help. Frank, who is wounded and in pain screams in fear which forces Paul to kill him to hide from Vietcong. Luke finds them and Frank alive and puts him into a helicopter.
ben finds Paul trying to escape by stealing a boat and killing a lot of people. he tries to save a child but Paul shoots them both and escapes. When Ben returns to Saigon, badly disfigured Luke tells him that Frank is alive but works as a contract killer. Ben shoots Frank to put him out of his misery.
Ben returns to Hong Kong to jane and his child meanwhile Paul becomes a successful businessman. when Ben confronts him about Frank, Paul is indifferent and throws him out. Ben follows Paul outside of his office which leads to a car chase to the pier where they used to play as kids. they crash their cars and continue to fight when finally, Ben fatally injures Paul and the last scene of the movie shows Ben throwing away his gun and limping away from Paul.
